BEHIND VIETNAM’S WALL OF PROPAGANDA
THE GENOCIDAL PERSECUTION OF MONTAGNARDS
CONTINUES
The Vietnamese communist government has announced from August 30
to September 2 a government sponsored festival will take place in Hanoi titled
“Central Highlands Cultural Days”. The festival will highlight the culture of
the indigenous Montagnards or Degar peoples who have resided in Vietnams central
highlands for the last 2000 years.
WARNING: In response to this display of propaganda the Montagnard Foundation who
represents our indigenous peoples however, publishes this warning to the
international community, namely that this initiative must not be construed as a
meaningful change in the racist and repressive policies enacted by the
government of Vietnam against our people. To date the entrenched racism and
persecution that our people face inside the central highlands continues
unabated. For the last 27 years the Vietnamese communist government has
systematically persecuted our race, outlawed our culture, murdered our leaders,
imprisoned our Christian pastors, and confiscated our ancestral homelands while
condemning our race to poverty and malnutrition. If we protest these human
rights violations we are imprisoned, tortured or murdered even today in 2002.
The Vietnamese government continues in 2002 to maintain martial law in our
homelands (the central highlands) by mobilizing thousands of soldiers and brutal
“Cong An” security forces who brutalize our people and prevent international
observers from assessing the situation there. In the name of our imprisoned
leaders, our Christian pastors who remain in jail, our children who suffer
malnutrition, our women who are forced to attend coercive meetings in order to
get sterilized, our ancestors who died at the hands of the communist regime, our
farmers who have been forced off our lands and driven from our ancestral
villages, our entire race who face systematic persecution, we the Montagnard
Foundation denounce Vietnam’s trickery concerning these “sham” festivals.
The Montagnard Foundation however, asks the US government, the European Union,
the World Bank, the IMF and Asian Development Bank and all peace loving nations
of the world to please try to end the persecution of our race and get Vietnam to
open our homelands to international monitors in order to protect one of the
oldest races of people in Asia. This September, world wide demonstrations will
begin in front of Vietnamese Embassies around the world including Wash DC, Rome,
Brussels and Moscow in protest against Vietnam’s propaganda, their denial of
human rights and their persecution of the Montagnards. See website: http://
